Enugu Governor, Sullivan Chime, in UK hospital with heart disease

Covenant University expels 200 students for not attending Church service

About 200 students may have been expelled by the authorities of Covenant University, Cannanland, Ota, Ogun State, recently for what was described as “disregard of paramount core values.”

Frustrated and angered by the development, some of the affected students who gave account of what happened battled emotions while narrating their situations to Saturday Vanguard recently. They however pleaded with the school authorities to tamper justice with mercy in order to save their future.

No To Fighting

When I went to Junior High School I said “no” to drugs. When I went to the marriage alter I said “no” to fighting. Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” anti-drug campaign was a huge success. Kids made a verbal commitment and a mental stance to avoid drugs before they were even of the age to be tempted. When they were introduced to drugs, they knew they could “just say no” and not feel alone.

Drug use among school age children plummeted in the 1980s and many have held up Nancy Reagan’s program as the chief reason. People who decide how they are going to cross a bridge before they ever get to it have a much greater chance of not falling in the water.

For our anniversary, I’ve always given my wife as many red roses as married years (I padded the first 11 years to 12 with white). Several years ago (I believe it was our 18th), I varied the routine.

I arranged with the florist to have a “stem tube” (my term, I forget the real name) of water placed on each rose. I had arranged with neighbors, friends, coworkers who lived near us, even her mother, to deliver a rose to her on our anniversary. I spent our “Anniversary Eve” delivering the roses (except to the work people).
